Warhammer 40,000
Warhammer 40,000 or simply Warhammer 40K is a miniature-based tabletop game. It involves building and painting your own miniature army and pit them against others' on a dioramic 6x4 or 4x4 feet table using a standardized set of game rules. Miniature armies come in various factions, from Imperial commandos to space-faring orks, each with its own background stories (what 40K players call "fluff") and combat units.

My army, a sub-faction of the Adeptus Astartes or the Space Marines, is of the so-called Dark Angels Chapter - one of thousands of regiments of bio-enhanced supersoldiers created by the Emperor of Man to impose his will throughout the grim universe of the 41st millennium.

Dark Angels of the Adeptus Astartes
The Dark Angels Chapter is first among legions of Space Marines bred by the Emperor from his own genetic imprints. Enhanced physiologically for combat operations, they are literally Angels of Death in the battlefield, sowing fear to anyone who dared oppose their mandate. Their homeworld, Caliban - now reduced to a barren asteroid after an epic battle against their traitorous Brothers - holds the Chapter's mobile fortress-monastery called the Tower of Angels. Here, deep within the labyrinthine pathways to the underground caverns, lies the key to their monastic nature. The Dark Angels hides a millenia-long secret that compromised their honor. It is with this reason that they and their Successor Chapters are called the Unforgiven.

The Sergeant is IN

As promised from my last blog entry, I worked on finishing my Deathwing sergeant. It's not yet based so technically it's not yet "done" but come on, give me some slack.

front

This guy has no name yet and so that parchment on his chest plate is still empty. His personal heraldry is a diagonal green sash with litanies written above it in blood red (probably a vengeful hate-message against the traitors!).

front left

His power sword, like on most of my sword-wielding Space Marines, is again turned off with my personally preferred diagonal P3 silver highlights.

rear left

This guy carries some scrolls with him. I want the parchment areas to look really antiquated as it probably contain the names of Fallen Angels that they were tasked to track down so it should be really old.

right

I free-handed the Chapter insignia because I was too lazy to get out of my painting station and look for the decals. I liked how it turned out. The numeral five is added to denote that he leads the fifth Terminator squad of the elite First Company. There's also some litanies in there to fill out space. LOL.

so there, tadaa... the Sarge!

* * * * *

On another note, I also started highlighting (with P3 dark gray) the black armor of some previously un-highlighted figs like this Deathwing Terminator.

Brother Garrik

Yup, I named him after you Garrman. He must be one really cranky hammernator!

I will continue doing this for the rest of the squad before I jump to basing the sergeant and picking another unpainted fig to work on.

For the Rock!

Deathwing Sar – Work in Progress (WIP)

Firstly, my Master of the Deathwing is done, highlights and all. Thanks (and no thanks) to the long weekend due to the typhoon.

I like how it turned out. Not that it's hard to paint a majority black fig. It's the little details that challenged me really. From my last update, it's mostly painting additional details to the left and right arms (including the weapons). I'm not a fan of blue (activated) power swords so I almost always stick with the boltgun version with a lighter P3 silver diagonal highlights.

After that, I went on with the highlight work for the rest of the fig with majority of it focused on lining P3 light gray on the black armor surfaces.

So that's it. My HQ's done!

Next on my painting pipeline is the Deathwing sergeant that will lead my elite Terminator squad to glorious battles! I find it stupid that the Dark Angels Codex (even supported by an FAQ) prohibited Deathwing sergeants to take up any other armament except the sword/gun combo while the rest of his squad is free to take up a slew of weapons combinations.

But oh well.

My Dark Angels Successor Chapter is based from the archaic knightly Order of old Caliban. Thus, they call their senior brother-knights a "Sar" as well. This particular Terminator Sar is from the AOBR boxed set.

Last night, I slapped on the basic colors on him.
  • Second coat of GW black on the armor over a Bosny black basecoat.
  • GW gold mettalics on the sword guard, knee and chest crux, and the iron halo.
  • P3 leather with GW sepia wash on the groin guard.
  • P3 red on the storm bolter, purity seals, and armor lights.
  • P3 bone with GW aggrax wash on the crux terminatus, skulls, and seal paper.
  • GW boltgun on the sword, facial cybernetics, and parts of the gun.
  • P3 light flesh on the bare head.
  • P3 violet on the right shoulder pad.
He will be fully painted by my next update. This, I promise the Lion Primarch. For Caliban!
